Foundation stones laid for the new FemtoLab (Gen2)

The Department of Physics at the Universidad de La Laguna (ULL) is getting a small new laboratory, designed to have the capability for the development of innovative ideas in the framework on future nanotechnology, 3D digital nanofabrication approaches, functional materials development, and renewable technologies, all orbiting around the 3D laser nanoprocessing ideas and projects being developed at the LeapLab group.

This summer of 2022 (July), the final installation and first tests of the climate control system of the FemtoLab were conducted, successfully observing a variability in temperature and relative humidity of ±0.4 °C and a ±3 %RH, across around ~12h of test. This environmental stability will be key to achieve fine 3D nanostructures with a focal depth precision of around ~10 nm, at the state-of-the-art worldwide in 3D nanofabrication acrosss large cm-scale footprints. Besides, the new laboratory has an environment which is designed to be free of particles as small as 1 micrometer.

Stay tuned for more news coming soon, on the installation of our 2nd generation femtosecond laser writing system, with a new laser coming around october!
